The Experience of Being a Drakestone Bride on Your Wedding Day

I wanted to create a blog that captured how a real bride enjoyed the whole experience of their wedding day at Drakestone House. Abbie was one of the first brides to ever book Drakestone House so I asked a few questions to get her take on the whole experience as a real bride.

1. In a brief description can you describe what you fell in love with at Drakestone – your key points that made you drawn to the venue.

The marquee was the first thing that drew us to Drakestone as we had always wanted a marquee wedding. When we then looked into what the wedding package included, we thought it was great that we would get the house for the weekend of the wedding for our close friends and family to stay with us.

Arriving at Drakestone and seeing the house and gardens was such a special feeling and we were so excited to get inside. Whilst looking around Drakestone, we loved the feel of the house. It is so cosy and homely as well as being immaculately clean and fresh. It really did feel like a home away from home.

The grounds are stunning and there is still plenty of room with the marquee on the lawn. The marquee is a fantastic size and in great condition. We loved the drapes and chandeliers etc that came with it and the fact that we could pick our tables and chairs as well as other optional extras.

We decided to have fairy lights and the black starcloth over the dancefloor which was really effective and I highly recommend. Alongside this, it was amazing knowing that we would be in the capable hands of Rebecca who not only comes with a wealth of experience but is so accommodating, friendly and professional.

We were absolutely in love with Drakestone House at this point and had such a feeling of happiness whilst looking around.

2. Did you visit any other venue before knowing Drakestone House was the venue you wanted?

Drakestone House was the first venue we visited but had already arranged a viewing of a second venue for the following day.

Whilst looking around this venue, not one single aspect compared to what Drakestone had to offer and we knew we had to arrange a second viewing at Drakestone to show our parents around. Of course, they had that same buzz that we had so we decided we didn’t want or need to look any further

3. Did you find any part of your wedding stressful in the lead up / planning if the wedding?

Not really – at least nothing concerning Drakestone! Organising the Church was the most stressful part but everything else went smoothly.

4. What was the “best bit” about your wedding?

Every part of it was so exciting for different reasons. I loved the fact that we could be at Drakestone the day before the wedding, so we were able to get everything organised and set up in the marquee as well as get settled into the house.

We had our immediate family over and enjoyed a meal together that evening. The wedding morning was a lovely girly morning at Drakestone with bridesmaids etc having hair and makeup done.

Having so much space at Drakestone meant that we were all able to socialise and enjoy the morning together before we left for the Church. We had the added bonus of having a housekeeper in to help make drinks and prepare and serve breakfast, alongside clearing up, taking that stress away from us. After this, it was exciting to know that when we returned at Drakestone, we would be welcoming our friends and family and sharing such an amazing wedding venue with them.

I loved the fact that we could be at Drakestone the day before the wedding, so we were able to get everything organised and set up in the marquee as well as get settled into the house.

5. What vision did you have for your wedding?

A marquee was always what I had wanted with a beautiful backdrop and surrounding grounds. This was exactly what we got with an incredible house for a whole weekend!

We wanted something unique and different that had a real wow factor along with having a fun, relaxed and enjoyable day for everyone.

6. How did your wedding day run – overall?

Our wedding day went brilliantly well! Everyone smiled and laughed all day long and it was a day of such happiness.

The planning meetings we had with Rebecca prior to the wedding meant that she really captured every detail we had envisaged for our wedding and she ensured that everything was perfect when we arrived at Drakestone with our guests after the ceremony at the Church.

The excellent communication between Rebecca and all other suppliers meant that we had a stress-free, enjoyable day and night! We even had a shower of rain during the afternoon and again during the evening celebrations but were equipped with plenty of umbrellas if our guests wanted them as well as meaning the dancefloor stayed full all night long!

7. As the bride what advice would you give to a potential bride getting married this year?

Everyone said it to me, and I really tried to follow the advice, but “enjoy every moment!” I was able to enjoy the whole planning process because I was organised and just thought about the main things that we wanted to keep us happy.

The day really does go so quickly. Make sure you take the time throughout the day to look around you, absorb the atmosphere and spend time with those who have come to share this day with you.

8. Was the accommodation/house a key factor to you when you booked Drakestone?

Before coming across Drakestone, accommodation wasn’t a key factor to us at all. Most of our family and friends live locally so we wouldn’t have needed to think about having places nearby for them to stay. However, after visiting Drakestone and realising what benefits it had to offer by having our close family and friends to share this weekend with, it has become one of the best things about our wedding. We are able to look back and reflect with different people and it has created such lovely memories for everyone.

9. What did you love about the house? Anything in particular?

We loved everything about the house! All rooms are a great size and decorated so tastefully. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers for guests to use with ease.

The kitchen and dining room were two of the most used rooms in the house as they were great for socialising and had everything that you would need for cooking, eating and drinking.

The upkeep of the cleanliness, including bed linen and towels was of a very high standard. We knew our wedding at Drakestone would be incredible but even so, it managed to exceed our expectations!
