Real Wedding at Drakestone House – Saturday 27th July 2019

Harriet Lynas & Brian King wedding July 2019.

The Proposal?

It was nearly 4 years from when we first met –  we got engaged in Dubai on the beach on my birthday a good date to remember! I then spent the whole evening calling everyone!

How Did you find Drakestone House?

We had originally been let down by our first venue which actually was the best thing that could of happened! I started panicking as we had people who had booked flights and accommodation so I started googling and joined the Cotswold Wedding Facebook group.

I messaged the group and emailed the admin who gave me a list of venues. As soon as we saw Drakestone House we knew it was the one for us as we wanted a Cotswold outdoor summer wedding. Drakestone House gave us the flexibility we needed with the marquee and we then got married in the field by the house – it was perfect!

How was the Wedding Planning?

Interesting!! I never knew how much detail goes into Wedding planning – I spent hours each day in the run up. I don’t think Amazon knew what had hit them with multiple deliveries every day…Also Rebecca from the DH team was amazing with lots of supplier recommendations which really helped.

How did you decide on your style?

The Drakestone House Open Day was great – they had styled sections of the marquee differently to give us an idea of how it would look and then we added bits of personalisation to the decorations. I also hired a stylist to ensure we didn’t get too carried away.

What did you eat?

Everything –  Birch Caterers were fantastic, had lots of compliments from our guests on our menu options. We had  canapes and drinks before dinner, a 3 course dinner and then a cheese board later on to soak up some of the alcohol!

What kind of entertainment did you have?

String quartet for pre-ceremony drinks, the ceremony and then for drinks before the meal

Band  – after dinner which included the first dance, thoroughly recommend getting a band as everyone was on the dance floor with inflatable instruments!

DJ – for the rest of the night – we’d asked people to make song recommendations on their RSVP which worked really well.

What did you DIY?

We made Limoncello, which was a mission trying to make enough for everyone! We’re not a very artistic couple (I get annoyed with Pictionary) so we came up with the ideas and then found suppliers to make it.

What were your special moments of the day?

Has to be the ceremony as we wrote our own vows and my mum is a registrar so she had created the ceremony for us.

The bouquet toss is always a good one – one of my friend’s landed on the floor due to the competitiveness of all our friends!

What was your biggest surprise of the day?

The speeches – they were all great, can’t wait to see the videos.

The photobooth – there are some amusing photos in there!!!

What advice would you give any other couples?

Definitely get a videographer – we weren’t originally but SO glad we did

Don’t worry about the small stuff – as much as anyone told us this, we ignored them, The run up to the wedding was stressful but now we realise it doesn’t need to be!
